If anyone would like to know how I made this photo:

Things needed

1 - Any camera that allows fully manual control over sutter speed and aperture. A creative compact or a dSLR is ideal, but not necessary. Needed to take the photos.
2 - A table or at the very least a nice flat and big surface. The bigger the more flexible you can be with placing light sources.
3 - A little torch, pen light or something of the sort. It's important that it's small and very, very bright. Something in the shape of the Maglites.
4 - A desklamp. With adjustable head for precise lighting. Decently bright.
5 - Some greasepaper or tracing paper. To diffuse the harsh bulbs of the desklamp.
6 - A reflector (if you don't have one, get some foil, crunch it up, unroll, and tape it to a piece of white card). Needed for providing fill-in light on the shadow side.
7 - Black card. To asborb reflections (thus increasing contrast). Can also be used as a background with care, and can be used to cast a shadow.
8 - A TRIPOD! Your exposures will be very long, so it's 100% necessary that you do NOT move it between shots.
9 - A very dark room.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Method

1 - Place all subject and background matter in place. It's up to you how to place them.
2 - Make sure there is no extra light in the room except for the desklamp.
3 - Choose an interesting object to photograph.
4 - Shoot a few shots with different lighting effects.
5 - Shoot using just the pen light and twirl it around the object.
6 - Always make sure that you do NOT move your tripod an inch.
7 - Combine in Photoshop

My second still life in a row. I swear it's getting addictive. Also my second photo in quick succession, it makes a nice change from before.

Once again, taken with a surprisingly good compact, the Sony N1.

The subject I chose is some vinegar in a jar, on my kitchen table.
